Dr. Asral Bahari Jambek is an Associate Professor at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), where he leads the Centre of Excellence for Micro System Technology (MiCTEC). He is also affiliated with the Faculty of Electronic Engineering Technology, having previously served as the Program Chairperson for the Bachelor of Electronics Engineering Programme. Dr. Asral holds a PhD in Electronic Engineering from the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom (2008), an MSc from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM, 2002), and a BEng in Electronic Engineering from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom (1998). With over 20 years of experience in both academia and industry, Dr. Asral has established a strong reputation in the design of very large-scale integration (VLSI) circuits and systems. Prior to joining academia, he served as a senior engineer at a premier semiconductor research centre in Malaysia. He has also completed 13 months of industrial attachment as a Visiting Fellow and Visiting Academic at Intel Microelectronics (M) Sdn. Bhd. and MIMOS Berhad. Dr. Asral is an active member of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CAS) and currently serves as Chair of the IEEE CAS Malaysia Chapter. Under his leadership, the IEEE CASS Malaysia Chapter was recognized with the IEEE CASS Global Chapter of the Year Award for 2024, a prestigious distinction acknowledging outstanding global chapter performance. His research focuses on low-energy algorithms and architectures for ultra-portable and embedded devices, with key applications in Internet of Things (IoT), system-on-chip (SoC), signal, image, and video processing, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). He and his team has secured research funding totaling RM 2,494,032 and has supervised 14 postgraduate students.
